Mr. Today says:
There has been no better time for for tradesmen even though our economy is low. Four casinos are being built within 5 years. That's a lot of man power needed to get the jobs completed. People from all over the country are moving to the Atlantic City area because of the job opportunities available. The MGM Grand, Revel and Pinnacle are just around the corner as well as plans for a fourth casino to be opened up on the current Bader Field location in Atlantic City.
Here is also an indepth article on the $20 billion projects in Atlantic City from the Philadelphia Inquirer.
Mr. Yesterday say:
I agree that there this is a great time for tradesmen. There is plenty of work out there. Between the Harrah's, Borgata and Trump Taj Mahal expansions there should be enough jobs to go around. Don't forget the MGM and Revel projects. Just announced today that Pinnacle Entertainment Group is delaying construction of their casino project till the second half of 2009 due to credit markets. Atlantic City is moving along as a one stop destination resort..

Atlantic City Misses Miss America
Mr. Today Says:
BRING BACK OUR MISS AMERICA! Yes I miss it as I feel having Miss America here in Atlantic City is one of the important pieces of history we have. Everything from the parade on the world famous Atlantic City boardwalk to the photoshoots and more.
sigh... that's all I have to say.
Mr. Yesterday says:
Margaret Gorman, Marian Bergeron, Donna Axum, Jennifer Berry. If anyone knows anything about Miss America, you'll know that these are some of the past winners from the Miss America Pageant ranging from 1921 to 2006. I'll get to why I didn't mention Lauren Nelson who is this years winner for 2007.
Living in the Atlantic City area all my life, the Miss America Pageant was always in the same sentance as Atlantic City. Ever since 1921 up to a few years ago, the Miss America Pageant was always held just past Labor Day weekend. You had all the hoopla of all the contestents arriving in Atlantic City, the parade, the shoes, the BIG NIGHT and don't forget the full page photo in the Atlantic City Press of the winner and the new Miss America stepping onto the beach and into the Atlantic Ocean. What happened.
The Miss America Organization could not keep the pageant in Atlantic City for whatever reasons. It's a real shame because when you think about the pageant you think about Atlantic City. Sure ratings and advertising dropped while expenses increased and i know that would be a big problem but don't you think there could always be a way to figure out how to have kept the pageant in Atlantic City. Bring the pageant into the 21st. century would be a good start. That is already happening by the way. Could'nt the casinos help bail out the organization. I bet if the DOP was planning to construct a road straight into one of it's casinos, another casino would want to have that same road come into their casino. Opps!! That already happened. Have the casinos pitch in some cash.
In my humble opinion, it was a real shame to let the Miss America Pageant slip out of Atlantic City. Oh, by the way, Lauren Nelson who was this years winner, first of congratulations, but I really didn't see much hoopla about it, not to mention that it aired in January.
GET THE MISS AMERICA PAGEANT BACK IN ATLANTIC CITY!! MAKE IT HAPPEN.
Till later on. Have a great day.

Atlantic City Hotels & Redevelopment
Mr. Today says:
Inspite of trashy north and south end area of Atlantic City, the area of the Walk has become a really nice place to actually enjoy the Atlantic City outdoor experience. However, what of the other area's? From what we know, Atlantic City will be redeveloping the area around the former Sands Casino Hotel. I hope the Atlantic City government goes through with this. It would be wonderful for tourists and locals to be able to walk around more than a three block radius.
Quoted from NBC: ATLANTIC CITY--Officials in Atlantic City met Wednesday to consider designating the more than 20 acres around the former sands hotel and casino as being in need of redevelopment. The city's planning board gathered again Wednesday morning to hear testimony from business owners about possibly redeveloping the three blocks surrounding Pinnacle Entertainment's proposed Atlantic City casino. Attorneys representing various property owners questioned aspects of recommendations.A meeting will be held in the future, for the public to voice their concerns.

Mr. Yesterday says:
First of all, just a little background here. I was born in Atlantic City, raised in the area and went to school at Atlantic City High. When I was graduating high school, casinos were just approved and Resorts International was just opening it's doors for the first time. It sure was a great time. I also worked in the casino industry for ove 15 long years.
When the casinos first opened I really wanted to work at the casinos. I always wondered what the city would look like in twenty years. Way back in the 70's, Atlantic City was just another declining city on the Jersey shore with rich history. Back to the present.........
Almost 30 years has gone by and the larger part of the city still looks like it should be condemed. Atlantic City brings in such large amounts of revenue that the city could have been torn down and rebuilt a few times. The trouth of the matter is that Atlantic City is years behind in redevelopment in my opinion. On the brighter side, Atlantic City has be making great stride in redevelopment. The Inlet area looks great. They had to tear it down and rebuild it but it does look great. The Walk Outlet Shopping arer is another plus for the city and they are still not done. The boardwalk is getting revamped in different areas. The Atlantic City Medical Center has also expanded. The newer casinos that are being built will have great land development around their buildings.
I guess what I'm saying is that Atlantic City is behind in redevelopment, it's making good strides and the future really has never looked better.
I can't wait to see what the next twenty years looks like.

Some More Smoke Free Casino Info
Mr. Today says:
For all those people who are against a smoke free casino, let's put some of your dearest people in the position that they'd be working in a non-smoke free casino. How bad could the second hand smoke be?
I found a website of a local casino dealer that had an issue with 2nd hand smoke to the point of having lung cancer. Please read his story at: http://www.smokefreecasinos.com/
Mr. Yesterday says:
Just read your blog a few minutes ago Mr. Today. Hmmmm. I just read Mr. Rennich's smoke free website. I know that there have been many medical studies of second hand smoke and thank heavens that Mr Rennich was in that car accident to find out that he had luung cancer to have it treated early. I'm just not all that sure about it all.
My mother passed away three years ago from lung cancer. When she found out about the cancer, the doctors gave her 4 months. She passed a few days short of the 4 month period. She never smoked a day in her life and worked mostly all of her adult life at only one job.

New Year's Eve
Mr. Today says:
Well New Year's Eve is upon us. If any of you don't know what the casinos are like on this joyous occasion, here's a little bit of info for you. The casinos are jam packed! Money is everywhere as well! There are so many people that go to the casinos on New Year's Eve that the casino table games are quite giving.
I enjoyed my New Year's last year at the Tropicana Quarter and this year, I'm planning to go to the Trump Taj Mahal. Hope to see you there!
Mr. Yesterday says:
Well Mr. Today. You got me.. Having worked in the casino industry for over 15 years, I must say that every single New Years Eve was jam packed. Every casin in Atlantic City is busy. A matter of fact, at midnight, everyone is still gambling and having fun. With that said, hopefully one year, i'll get to New York to see the ball drop.
Wishing everyone a great new year!!

Tropicana stripped of its license
Mr. Today says:
Tropicana is stripped of its license from the state Casino Control Commison as of Wednesday December, 14.
LOL. We know the games are all the same, they are trying to make the place look nicer with new interior renovations (going with the trend of the other casinos with warm beige colors.... oooh, so original), the Quarter is ok, and the food that the casino offers sucks (especially the buffet and other "lower priced" restaurants that compete with the other lower priced restaurants of the other casinos).
... pft... no wonder the Press Of Atlantic City says:
"its owner, Columbia Sussex Corp. was incapable of running the type of "first class facility' required under state law."
Personally, I'm glad that happened because now, I can take my mom somewhere else to gamble instead of that shithole.
Mr. Yesterday says:
Well well well, isn't this a shock. When I graduater high school, my first real casino job was at the Tropicana. I was there for about 8 years. I was there for most of their expansion projects in the "80's". In my opinion, Tropicana is one of the nicest casinos in Atlantic City. Tropicana has adapted to the many changes that Atantic City has seen. The casino space is huge and the hotel accomodates thousands.
Unfortunatly, the Columbia Sussex Corp took a top notched casino and turned it into crap. I'm not a rocket scientist but you don't need many brain cells to know that if you fire over 900 employees, service is not going to get effected. They should be ashamed of themselves along with the New Jersey Casino Control Commission which gave them their licence in the first place.
This will all pass very soon and for the better. The Columbia Sussex Corp will (and have) loose their casino license, the property will go up for sall (at fair market value), another company will buy it up real fast ( i'm sure there are companies waiting in line for the sale to start), the company that buys the property will rehire the staff needed and then spend lots of money to get the Tropicana back in shape. At that point The Tropicana will start their hugh new marketing campaign.
The Tropicana will be reborn which is great because the property is still well worth the trip. It is one of the places to visit and stay. I can go on and on. So yes, right now the property is a shithole but in the near future, the Tropicana Casino Resort will shine again like it has for so many years.

Black Jack
Mr. Today says:
So my wife is a black jack dealer and i swear i think the game is rigged so the dealer always wins (or at least most of the time). When we played black jack at home, it's so odd that so many of her hands were 21 or at least winning numbers against my sister, mom and I. We played with only 2 decks though but still, what gives?
When she deals at the casino, she tends to win over players as well even though she doesn't want to. Naturally, if she loses, then she'll get more tips but it doesnt seem to happen often.
Mr. Yesterday says:
I can't believe your wife is the devil, opps, I mean a black jack dealer. Only kidding!!
Why is it always when your at a black jack table, you seem to get shot down more by the dealer then possibly your segnificant other. If I had a 19, the dealer has a 20. If I had a 20, the dealer would have a 21. Hell, if I had a 6, the dealer would have a 7. I've never won at a black jack table, I'd do better playing the big six wheel.
Ok, let's get serious. At one point or another you might be up then, Opps, I did it again. You start betting more money and out of the blue you lose 5 hands in a row. WAIT!! Don't forget those few times when the table was getting kind of hot and your tipping the dealer, the pit boss stops by and whispers something in the dealers ear and Opps, all of the sudden the table gets cold and you lose all of your money. What the heck, I never really liked black jack anyway, it's kind of like playing war when i was a kid. The only good times I had at a black jack table was when the waitress was bringing me free drinks. As if i needed tyo get drunk and lose. I could do that sober. Happy card playing. Till next time.
